Brooks Patterson
From November, 1962 through November, 1964, now Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson was known as United States Army Specialist 4th Class L. Brooks Patterson. Following 16 years as the Prosecutor of Oakland County, he was elected County Executive in 1992. He was re-elected to a sixth term in 2012, now marking 22 years in that role.
Brooks has been a tremendous supporter of The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial. He spoke at our 70th anniversary of VE Day celebration this May. He understands the need for this memorial. He summed it up best in his endorsement letter for this project when he said, “We owe it to Michigan’s Greatest Generation to ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.”
So, Brooks welcomed the opportunity to help us do that and mark the end of the greatest conflict of the twentieth century.
Brooks read excerpts from President Harry S Truman’s speech of September 2, 1945, reflecting on the formal surrender ceremony conducted earlier that day and the peace that would follow.
