Michigan Honors Ceremony
MLive Media Group Salutes WWII Veterans at the State Capitol
LANSING (November 13, 2014) – The MLive Media group capped off its year long Michigan Honors salute to the state’s WWII veterans with a gala celebration at the State Capitol. Governor Rick Snyder and Debi Hollis, President of The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial were two of the featured speakers. The MLive Media Group has crisscrossed the state, hosting a series of open house events to drive this project. The purpose of these events was to photograph and chronicle the stories of Michigan’s WWII veterans. The MLive Media Group graciously invited The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial to appear at many of these to spread the word about the memorial. Further details on these appearances may be found among the events listed here.
At this last event, over 300 attendees, including over 100 veterans, filled the Capitol rotunda for the grand closing ceremony. The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial was also represented at the reception and ceremony by Vice President Russell Levine, Board member Rick Sage, Project Sculptors Larry Halbert and Tad McKillop and “Private Joe Bronze” a one-third scale model of one of the statues destined for the memorial.
